what can I say... this week one of are investigator couples fell off the face of the earth... like we cant find them. So that sucks they had a baptism date but now who knows? The ward in keene is really cool they understand if missionary work stops there is not going to be anyone in the ward in 10 years so every one is a good member missionary. Our ward mission leader is the best man to walk the face of the earth. He is so righteous. Everyone here drives a Toyota Prius. the other day I counted 45 of them. Keene has a goal as a town to be the most healthy town in the USA. I think they are in like 4th right now. People are always running, biking, swimming and doing fun stuff we cant really do. So like we really need bikes. This guy from the ward says he has two for us but its been like 4 weeks and nothing sooooo that sucks. We walk a lot now. Well sorry my email was not as good today I'll work on it for next week and pictures are hard to send on library computers.

May 24th
This week we had zone conference so like 1/3 of the mission get to gather and we learn stuff all day. This one was extra special because we had Elder Arnold from the 70 teach the conference so it was really crazy intense. I had to say the opening prayer in front of 1/3 of the mission, the mission president his wife, a member of the 70 and his wife. But really it was no big deal at the same time. So he told us some stuff that we can do so that we can be better and get more baptisms. Elder Arnold was so powerful his spirt was intense and he yelled rather than talked (kinda like elder holland) for about 5 hours.
so now that it is nice outside ppl are always in there yard which makes it easier to talk to them but as we walk down the street they all run into there houses and try and hide from us ha ha. It does not work we chase them (in a nice way) and talk to them about the church its sweet. We where knocking on this one house and then the lady drives up in her car so we walked down to talk with her and she puts her cell phone up to her ear and starts "talking" but it didn't ring and her convo didn't make sense. Ha ha ... so she was faking it we waited for 5 min for her to to get of the phone then we made it look like we left by hiding behind a bush. She looked around to see if we were still there then got out of her car and ran into her house. We jumped out from behind the bush and talked with her. We don't let any one get away. ppl like to yell rude stuff at us from there cars when we are walking i write it down in my planer. But other than that most ppl like us.
When we street contact we meet crazy ppl I was talking to this weird old lady that was all hunched over and had on a cloak. I told her a bit about what we are doing as missionaries and a bit about the church and she told me that she didn't like church and that she belonged to the organized crime unit. Then she tried to burn me with her cigaret so we left her with a card and ran. Then this old guy in a electric wheelchair was passing us on the side walk so I started talking with him and he just gassed his wheelchair and took off so I ran after him and talked with him but after a block or so I just gave him a card. But all this craziness pays off one night Elder Grifiths told me to talk to this one couple that was walking by and they looked really weird and I was going to just let them go by but I stopped them and we had a really good talk about the church and then we went over and had a lesson at there house and they loved it and even came to church !!!!! I am so happy about them.
Now maybe I'll talk about are investigators.
the ones I just talked about are named Kristy and Adam. They have a 1 1/2 year old girl and seam very interested in the church so I am excited for them.
Then there is alex she is 17 and has came to church 3 times and I extended a baptism date and she said yes!! but she needs to over come smoking but we should be able to help her.
Then Melinda and Shaun they also have a baptism date that we extended this week.
Then the old guy from the old folks home that I gave a blessing. He wants to be baptized he just has to get healthy.
yesterday the APs called us and congratulated us on the hard work. We have 4 baptism dates coming up and thats more than any one else in the mission. Elder Grifiths and I are such a good team. I make really good friends with everyone and like play with there kids and then when we teach. Elder Griths knows all the materials really well then I bare testimony and tell ppl that they need to pray and read or there is no point in us coming over I kinda lay down the law and be straight up with ppl. When ppl don't do what I ask I get really sad and then they normally do it for next time.

Elder Gardner's first email lightly edited ;)
I got to the mtc at like 9 last night just in time to read scrips for 30 min say hi to the elders in my room and go to bed
my comp. is elder landsaw he is awsome we get along well. I am loving the mtc there are a lot of weirdos and I am saying that as nicely as I can. the other elders in my room are Elder Howard and Stevens. Elder Howard is a classic geek but the kind that you love. Like he is so funny and fun to be around. Elder Stevens is this guy from cali. and he is so sweet like says such funny stuff all the time. They are all going to Atlanta and we joke around about rap songs that have to do with Atlanta. I'm having such a sweet time I am loving it so much. they gave me 160 dollars worth of shots today, 3 of them. This place is just intence. I'm really tired all day but when the teacher asks you a Q. it wakes you up real good for about 10 min. dont really know what else to say. Get kristy to put my email up on my face book so ppl can email me. That would be nice. I'll try and send some pics next time I have some funnny ones. Its weird to think that I am not gonig to see you guys in two years but right now it seams like no big deal but this one kid in my distric was getting a bit home sick today I feel bad for him must be a mommys boy ok I am out ttyl suckas.

Called to serve

Darren received his call in mid September and was thrilled to be called to the Boston Massachusetts Mission but was quite surprised when he noticed the report date to the missionary training center in Provo was not until March 3rd nearly 6 months of waiting. We soon found out that an American visa is one of the most difficult and slowest visas to get of any country that the church sends missionaries to.
The Massachusetts Boston Mission includes all of Massachusetts and small parts of New Hampshire, Vermont, New York and Rode Island. There Are currently 190 fulltime missionaries serving in the Mission. The mission contains 5 Stakes, 40 Wards, and 13 Branches one Haitian ward, 2 Portuguese wards, and 4 Spanish wards.
Darrens Visa did not come in time for him to leave on March 3rd so his report date was moved to April 14th.
Darrens Visa came and he is getting ready to leave on Wednesday!
I went for lunch with him today and he pointed out that today was his last full day before becoming a missionary. He will be set apart tomorrow night.
I know Darren hates that people think he is so wonderful when he hasent even left or done anything yet, but I am so proud of him and his choice to go on a mission! I wish him luck and cant wait to read his letters and hear about all of the amazing experiences he is about to have!
